Nica-Art - Nicaraguan Pottery
If you ask Chris Welke, owner of nica-art about his journey from New Jersey to Central America, he will tell you, “Its long story… after being on the observation deck of one of the Twin Towers in NY, 30 hours before it fell, I headed to Costa Rica in search of meaning...” Chris later moved to Nicaragua looking for adventure, fun, and the hopes of a story to tell. Nine years later, he tells a great story through the 44 artists he represents from the unassuming town of San Juan de Oriente, in Nicaragua.
After a very lengthy process of hand crafting pottery, burnishing and painting using the traditional “engove” method, then baking in kilns constructed of local materials, these artisans create uniquely beautiful pieces reflecting their collective spirit. Chrysalis Vineyards is proud to present to you one of the newest artisans to join our team of festival vendors showcasing the best Nicaraguan Pottery available.
