In 1873, Norton was declared the “best red wine of all nations” at a worldwide competition in Vienna. By that time, the grape was well established as a source of fine wines in the United States, as evidenced by this report of the First Annual competiton of the Lake Shore Grape Gowers Association in Erie, Pennsylavania: |
