Chrysalis Vineyards

Frequently Asked Questions

What are your business hours?

From April 1st until October 31st we are open from 10am until 6pm Monday-Thursday and 10am until 7pm Friday-Sunday. From November 1st until March 31st we are open from 10am until 5pm seven days a week. The last full tasting begins 1 hour prior to closing. Last call for open bottles and glass purchases is 1/2 hour prior to closing. Our registers remain open until closing for closed bottles and other product purchases. We are closed New Year's Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

What are your wine tastings like and how do I reserve a time?

Our wine tastings consist of samples of 10 Chrysalis Vineyards wines at a cost of $15 per person. The lineup of wines changes seasonally and includes both red and white wines. Our wines are presented by our knowledgeable tasting room associates whose aim is to educate our customers in a welcoming and fun way. During the weekdays our tastings are not scheduled, simply come out to the tasting room at the Ag District Center at least 1 hour prior to closing for a full tasting. On weekends we have scheduled tastings that start every 10 to 15 minutes. When you enter the tasting room one of our associates will charge you for your tasting, provide you with a glass (which is yours to keep!), and direct you to the next available tasting.

Why do you have scheduled tastings?

It's important to us that our customers have the opportunity to learn about our wines and engage with our wine associates. Over nearly twenty years of servicing the public, we’ve experimented with a number of different ways for our customers to taste and learn about our wines. We’ve found that the scheduled tasting, where we can pour and discuss each of our wines, answering questions as we go along, provides the most engaging and interesting experience for our visitors. So on weekends, when it is difficult to provide everyone with one-on-one service, we’ve found that scheduling our tastings allows everyone to have a quality experience.

Do you allow children ?

Absolutely, we love kids....our owner actually has 6 of her own! Children and young adults are welcome in our outdoor space and the main floor of our building. The upper floor and deck are reserved for adults 21 years of age or older. For the safety and enjoyment of everyone we do ask that children remain under the direct supervision of an adult at all times.

Do you allow pets?

Yes, but only outside the building. The Ag District Center is home to our commercial kitchen and the Locksley Farmstead Cheese creamery, so per Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services regulations we cannot allow animals in the building. Service animals are allowed, but please remember that a service animal is defined by the American Disabilities Act as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform a task for an individual with a disability. Pets must be leashed at all times and all waste must be cleaned up immediately.

Are groups allowed?

Groups of more than 8 people require an advance reservation. Reservations can be made by calling the tasting room during business hours at (540)687-8222 ext. 0. This includes all busses, limos and other group transportation. We reserve the right to refuse service to groups without a reservation. Groups must be aware that if any member of the group appears to be intoxicated or behaves in any manner that is offensive to our staff or guests then the entire group may be asked to leave.

Can we have our birthday party, bridal shower, wedding, etc. at the Ag District Center?

We do not allow private parties and events at the Ag District Center. We understand that you may want to enjoy the experience at the Ag District with your friends and family, however we do not reserve space and ask that you do not occupy more table space than necessary for the number of people present. We do not allow decorations, buffet tables, or movement of our furnishings. We do rent space for private parties at our Champe Ford Events Center, click here for event space rental information.

Can we bring beer, alcohol, or wine?

Absolutley no outside alcohol is permitted. Virginia ABC law prohibits ANY alcohol on the property other than that produced by Chrysalis Vineyards. Please remember that if you make wine purchases at other vineyards prior to your arrival, those purchases must remain in your parked and locked vehicle. Anyone who refuses to comply with the law will be asked to leave.

Do you allow outside food?

You are welcome to bring your own food to enjoy with our wine. Please remember that Virginia ABC law prohibits ANY alcohol on the property other than that produced by Chrysalis Vineyards. Please remember that if you make wine purchases at other vineyards prior to your arrival, those purchases must remain in your parked and locked vehicle.

I don't see any vines, do you grow your grapes?

Yes, we do grow our own fruit. Our farm is over 400 acres with 50 acres of the southern side planted in several varietals. Our Norton vines comprise 40 acres, the largest planting of Norton in the world. Our Hollin Vineyard, located in Delaplane, VA, has an additional 20 acres of varietals that do better at a slightly higher elevation.

Can I have wine shipped to me?

Yes, we do ship our wine. Due to local regulations there are some localities to which we cannot ship. You can purchase and ship wine online using our secure shopping cart. If you have questions please call the tasting room at 540-687-8222 ext. 0. One of our staff members will be happy to take your order and confirm that we are able to ship to the desired location. Please remember that all alcohol shipments require that someone over the age of 21 be present to sign upon delivery.
